a Garden That Matches Your Extraordinary Setting
For discerning homeowners in North Wales who refuse to settle for ordinary gardens.
You’ve invested everything in your property within Wales’ most spectacular locations. The architecture. The interiors. The breathtaking setting among Snowdonia’s peaks or along the dramatic coastline. But step outside, and something feels… off.
Your garden should be more than just pleasant. In these extraordinary locations—where ancient mountains meet the Irish Sea, where homes sit within National Parks and stunning countryside—your outdoor spaces deserve to match the magic that surrounds them.

Does Your Garden Actually Suit This Location Location Location?
You own property in one of Wales’ most beautiful spots. Maybe it’s a period home with Snowdonia views, a coastal property on the Llŷn Peninsula, or a country house surrounded by protected countryside. You know your garden should be something special—but right now, it’s not living up to the setting.
The Frustrations You’re Probably Feeling
Your garden completely ignores those incredible Eryri mountain views that made you fall in love with this place. Instead of creating a natural flow between your home and the dramatic landscape beyond, your outdoor spaces feel generic—like they could be anywhere in suburban Britain rather than in this ancient, wilderness corner of Wales.
There’s no real connection between your house and garden. You step outside onto unused lawn where there should be inviting spaces for morning coffee with mountain views, or evening drinks watching the sunset over Cardigan Bay. The potential is obvious, but somehow it’s just not happening.
Your garden ignores everything that makes this location special—the natural drama of sea, stone, and sky. Rather than celebrating what is called genius loci (the unique spirit of place), your outdoor spaces feel borrowed from a garden centre catalogue.
The Planning Puzzle
And then there’s the planning side of things. Garden changes in National Parks or around listed buildings can feel like navigating a maze. You’ve maybe spoken to garden designers who seem unsure about what’s actually allowed, or contractors who dismiss the regulations entirely. The fear of getting it wrong—and the potential costs—can leave you stuck doing nothing.
What If Your Garden Could Do This Instead?
Imagine stepping outside into a series of beautiful outdoor rooms, each one designed to frame a specific view, each one drawing you deeper into the extraordinary landscape around your property.
Picture This…
A sheltered terrace where you dine as the sun sets over Cardigan Bay, designed to capture evening light while protecting you from those Welsh winds. Stone walls and native planting signatures that feel like they’ve always been part of this landscape, creating intimate spaces for relaxation that honour the spirit of place.
Seamless transitions from formal areas near your house to wilder, more naturalistic spaces that borrow the majesty of mountain and shore. Your garden becomes a journey from domestic comfort to landscape immersion, with each space revealing new perspectives on the views that make your location extraordinary.
Outdoor rooms that work throughout the seasons, designed with proper understanding of Welsh weather. Spaces for morning coffee with mountain views, afternoon reading in sheltered spots, and evening entertaining with dramatic backdrops.
We Don't Impose. We Interpret.
At Eryri Garden Design, we believe the best gardens emerge from listening—to the land, to your home’s character, to your vision for outdoor living. We don’t arrive with cookie-cutter solutions. Instead, we design gardens that feel like they’ve always belonged in their Welsh setting.
Why We’re Different
I’m Ian Robinson, a Chartered Landscape Architect with 25 years of experience, but more importantly, I’m someone who grew up in these landscapes. My approach combines professional expertise with genuine understanding of what makes Welsh gardens work—the natural processes, the native plant signatures, the planning requirements, and most crucially, the spirit of place that makes each site unique.

A Journey Home to Welsh Landscapes
Growing up in North Wales, I was surrounded by landscapes that would shape my entire career—the beauty of the Llŷn Peninsula, the drama of Snowdonia, and places like Portmeirion that first showed me how human creativity could enhance rather than compete with natural beauty.
My career took me away initially, working with design practices and large corporates, developing expertise in everything from public infrastructure to environmental planning. When I set up my practice in the Peak District, the work that found me—and that I found most meaningful—sat at the intersection of natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Family brought me back to North Wales, but the decision also reflected something deeper—the pull of the sea and the mystical quality of Snowdonia’s remote tranquillity. Now, with 25 years of experience and Chartered status, I’ve created Eryri Garden Design to focus on what I’m most passionate about: helping people create gardens that truly belong in these extraordinary Welsh landscapes.
